Correos announces Architecture stamps
by DestinationTenerifeCorreos, the Spanish Postal operator, has released a new set of stamps. Each depicts notable examples of Spanish architecture.
The six stamps cover the Palace of Longoria and Torrespaña (Madrid), Vicens House, Tower of Communications of Montjuïc) and Agbar Tower (Barcelona) and Audience of Tenerife (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and each stamp has a value of 0.31 euros.

The Spanish Post Office said it had decided to create a series dedicated exclusively to recognize the most impressive works of Spanish architecture that often go unnoticed.
Four of those in the series include:
* The Palace of Longoria (Madrid - pictured above) - a modernist building constructed by Jose Grases Riera between 1902 and 1904. The building is considered of important historical & artistic interest. It is formed around the central stairs, with a marked influence of the Catalan modernismo of Gaudí and Puig i Cadafalch.
* The Vicens House (Barcelona) - another modernist building, this time designed by Antoni Gaudí and constructed between 1883 and 1889. It was commissioned by Manuel Vicens i Montaner, owner of a tile factory, which is shown in the facade, in which Gaudí includes ceramic tiles.
* Communications Tower (Montjuïc) - designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. Its design is considered as innovative and more a sculpture than a transmission tower.
* Tenerife Audtorium (Santa Cruz) - One of the most singular buildings of the Canary Islands. Its resembles an enormous bird and was designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, it was inaugurated in 2003 by S.A.R. Prince de Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón.
