Beaches in Tenerife
by DestinationTenerife
There are many beaches throughout the coastlines of Playa De Las Americas and Los Cristianos, the main tourist areas of Tenerife, which cater to both tourists and locals that enjoy the sun and sea near to all of the local bars and cafes along the shore.
However, if you prefer to go a little further afield, there are many great beaches in Tenerife that avoid the usual tourist trap and offer a variety of water sports and scenic views.
El Puertito
This is between the South and the South West of Tenerife, and is on the coast of a small Spanish village still untouched by tourism.
Many local Canarians use the area as an unofficial camping areas, and the location is characterized by superb fish restaurants and traditional Canarian houses.
Playa De Los Abriguitos
You can find this beach just off of the main road at Los Abades, just past the Tenerife South airport.
A quiet area with light golden sand and turquoise waters.
Playa Grande
In Punta De Abona this secluded and private beach is protected by a headland that covers the costal area, ensuring that any winds are light.
There is a traditional Canarian lighthouse and a path leading to the fishing village above.
Playa Socorro
Between Puerto De La Cruz and Icod De Los Vinos, the Playa Socorro is a medium sized beach of black volcanic sand, typical of many of the beaches in the north of the island, located on one of the most picturesque stretches of Tenerife’s coastline. The approach road winds through banana plantations and charming old haciendas to this very popular beach. The beach shelves gently into the rolling waves; perfect for people who like to keep their feet on the ground, but be warned this is a surfer’s beach, the waves here pack a punch. There’s a good little beach bar restaurant overlooking the beach.
Playa De La Arena
A black sand beach opposite an attractive promenade of bars and cafes. There is a restaurant on the beach itself providing local seafood. This beach is very spacious and there is plenty of parking, with surfing along the local coastline.
Playa Bollullo
Just outside of Puerto De La Cruz, this area consists of three coves cut into the cliff side.
A beautiful black sand beach awaits you, that is much more remote and peaceful compared to many other beaches in Tenerife, with huge waves and a tranquil beach bar.
Playa Las Gaviotas
10 kilometres beyond Santa Cruz in the north of the island. A very intimate setting that many naturists visit.
Playa De Las Teresitas
The most spectacular and popular beach in Tenerife away from the main tourist areas, and is roughly 8 kilometres beyond Santa Cruz.
Shaped in a crescent with golden sand and lagoon like waters, surrounded by palm trees and waters in which you can see tropical fish swimming around you. The beach also contains changing rooms, toilets, a bar restaurant and a car park.
Playa Del Duque
Located at the western end of Playa De Las Americas, this beach is known as the “upmarket” beach of the south, and has a caribbean feel to it with beach huts and palm umbrellas.
