Tourism figures rise in Tenerife

Tourism from the mainland increased 21.8% during the month of March in relation to same month last year with 116,518 Spanish holidaymakers choosing Tenerife.
In terms of the global picture Tenerife registered a total of 506,572 tourists which represented a 3.6% increase on the previous year. The vice-president of The Tenerife Cabildo and director of Tourism José Manuel Bermúdez, explained. "These favourable figures are due to the excellent behaviour of the Spanish market and the fact that this year Easter fell in the month of March."

The provisional analisis of the figures indicates that 293,618 clientes stayed in Hotels on the Island and 212,954 prefered other accomadation. In terms of the North/South divide on Tenerife, 385,667 tourists holidayed in the South and 99.912 stayed in the North, a 10% rise on last year.

So far this year 1.3 million tourists have visited the Island, 270,000 from the mainland and 1.1 million tourists mainly from Great Britain, Germany and Scandanavia. The negative side was shown in a slight fall in British tourism and a 10% fall in the German market.
