The McDonald's chain announced the re-opening of the newly refurbished branch in Puerto de la Cruz, on the Avenida Colon, amid much fanfare.  Ramón Fariña, the chains owner in Tenerife noted that before the refurbishment, the specific branch had become a 'black spot' among the other outlets, but the new refurbishment has made it one of McDonald's flagship stores.  The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marcos Brito, attended the opening ceremony and was presented with a commerative plaque to mark the occasion.

Brito was quoted as praising the chain for "opting for innovation in times of crisis"and went on to note that the new look with the large terrace would attract visitors and locals alike.

With the massive shopping chain Iceland all set to open a 10th store in Puerto Banus, on the Spanish Mainland, it was also announced that they intend to open 2 brand new stores, one in Tenerife, and one in Vera.

These shops will be opened over the next few months.

19 restaurants from the locality of Santiago del Teide, in the West of the Island, will be on show in the food fair.  The fair itself runs from September 24th until October 10th, and will be held in Santiago del Teide and Los Gigantes.  On offer will be events such as Wine Tasting and plenty of Tapas to go around!

Lots of restaurants are participating, and the idea is for visitors to sample something new, and see the real side of Tenerife from a culinary point of view.

Lidl, the giant German discount chain of supermarket stores, announced yesterday that it has plans for 12 of it's supermarkets to open in the Canary Islands.  Five of these will be located in Tenerife, at La Laguna, Puerto de la Cruz, Granadilla, San Miguel, and Adeje. (more...)
