Despite a small decline in visitors from 2009 - the Canary Islands are still proving popular with tourists, with Tenerife Holidays still the highest package by far.

Quarter 1 of 2010 estimated earnings for the Canary Islands are in the region of a whopping 3.21 billion Euros, with this number set to increase as the Summer continues.

Tenerifes list of achievements continues to grow - with the worlds largest collection of parrots in the North at Loro Parque, and Europe's largest waterpark in the South with Siam Park, the Island now contains the worlds first ever Bioclimatic Holiday Village.

Confused as to exactly what a Bioclimatic Holiday Village actually is?  You're not alone.  It's a collection of 25 houses which will serve as temporary bases for tourists, as well as testing units for the duration of this experiment.

The houses themselves run purely on naturally available energy, harnessing the power of wind and sun to power everything within the home.  According to official statements, sensors will:

constantly feed back information on their temperature, humidity and air movement in order to determine which techniques are the most efficient

With a total of 15 years of development, and 13 million euros spent on actually implementing this village, it is a project that the whole world is watching with eager eyes on the outcome.

Tenerife has just launched a massive promotional campaign, aimed at residents in Belgium, France and Luxembourg, through Liberty TV.  liberty TV is one of the largest networks in Europe, and specialises in travel information.

Running from June through September, the promotional campaighn aims to increase traffic to the official Tenerife Tourism site, as well as promote Tenerife as a viable and fun holiday destination.

1. Pack plenty of suncream, and, more importantly, use it!

Lots of people come on a Tenerife Holiday and decide that they don't need to wear suncream, because they 'never burn'.  We've all made the mistake at least once in our lives, and it's no different here.  Whilst the weather can sometimes be mild, you can (and will) still get burnt.  The sun is out for a high portion of the day - and not taking enough precautions can lead to sunburnt skin, and diminishing the enjoyment of what is meant to be an fun and relaxing time.
