The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermudez has been a long time supporter of Tenerife holiday makers visiting the capital, and it seems his dreams are coming true.  During the first period of 2012, visitors on holiday in Tenerife, whether via excursions, over night stops or cruise ship visits, spent over 48 million euros in the island's capital.  This is an increase of 4.02% on last years figures during the same period.

People staying for one night or more in the city are also increasing, with a figure of 11.4% showing - again, versus the same period last year.

This just goes to show that the north of Tenerife is well worth visiting when you're here on holiday in Tenerife!

The landscapes of Tenerife are quite close to the terrain of Mars - and due to this, 2 of the prototypes for the Mars exploration in 2018 are being tested on the Island.

The Spanish company GMV are currently testing 'Idris', which is the first prototype, slightly smaller than the Curiosity Rover, which is currently exploring Mars.  The second prototype has been given the nickname of 'Indie'.

With five cameras, the ability to create 3d maps as well as being able to navigate and avoid obstacles in its path, these prototypes are being tested in as close to real conditions as possible.

Tenerife has been used in the past (as well as currently) for film locations - and can now add Mars Rover testing location to the list of accolades the island has received.  Even more reason to come and visit Tenerife on holiday!

Tenerife's Loro Parque is pleased to announce that a second baby Orca has been born as part of their breeding programme.

The award winning zoo has gone from strength to strength, breaking lots of European records and garnering multiple accolades over the years it has been open.  Many of the tourists on holiday in Tenerife view Loro Parque as a 'must visit', and it proves a massive hit with the entire family.

The Orca's mother, 10 year old Kohana is said to be safe and well after a 2 hour labour period.
