Sunderland resident charged with Tenerife murder
by DestinationTenerifeA Sunderland man has appeared in court after being accused of murdering a 25-year-old outside a nightclub in Tenerife.
Spanish police spent the weekend quizzing the man, along with another man believed to be from the Liverpool area.
The pair were arrested after a Moroccan man was stabbed outside a nightclub in Playa de Las Americas.
On Monday, a Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed that a man on holiday from the Sunderland area had been arrested in connection with murder and a Liverpool man for accessory to murder.
She yesterday confirmed that they had appeared in court, but because of strict reporting restrictions imposed by the Spanish judge, was not able to report the outcome or any more details about the case.
The identity of the man was also not being released by the Spanish authorities.
On Saturday, at about 6am, police were called to Americas Shopping Centre in Avenida Rafael Puig, an area known locally as The Patch, after the victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood by security staff.
He was still alive when the emergency services arrived to take him to the nearby Hospital Sur.
Doctors pronounced him dead shortly afterwards from a stab wound to his stomach.
The Wearside man is believed to be in his fifties, and has a wife and two children.
The investigation into the death is continuing.
