More than two million Britons are heading overseas for Easter and Tenerife is the outright favourite destination. Also popular with the British, for the early Easter break, according to Abta, are Egypt, Morocco and Florida.And because Easter is so early, the skiing season is still in full swing, so France, Austria and Switzerland are also popular destinations.

For those looking for a weekend getaway, city breaks to Paris Amsterdam, Barcelona and Rome top the list.

Around 450,000 passengers will be leaving from Heathrow airport this weekend making it the busiest airport in Britain, followed by Gatwick with 260,000 and Stansted with 170,000.

President of Abta, Justin Fleming said the early Easter this year meant that people had the choice of heading for the ski slopes of lazing on a sunny beach.
