The diversity of Restaurants in Tenerife
by DestinationTenerifeTenerife restaurants are a variety of culinary delights. On one hand, you have the typical Canarian food choices (Canarian Potatoes with 'Mojo Picón (pronounced Mo Ho)' sauce, for example) - then at the other end of the spectrum, you have McDonalds, Burger King and the other fast food chains.
Within this article, we attempt to give you an overview of what type of places you'd most likely want to visit on a holiday to Tenerife.
In Tenerife, 'Italian Restaurant' doesn't necessarily mean 'Italian Restaurant'.
Confused? So were we when we went to our first 'Italian Restaurant' in Tenerife. Just bear in mind that a lot of Italian Restaurants in Tenerife do not serve authentic italian food, and you're more than likely to find generic pizza and pasta dishes that could be much better enjoyed in any other restaurant. There is the odd exception of course, some of the Little Italy restaurants, whilst being part of a large chain, still serve authentic, delicious food.
When in Tenerife, do as the Canarians do!
That's right. You wouldn't expect someone to come over to your country of residence and turn their noses up at your home made delicacies without trying it, would you? So at least make an effort to try local food when you're here. The main delicacies are fresh fish, local meat, and succulent fresh vegetables.
Don't succumb to the temptation to stick to 'food you know'!
As a British person, I know how easy it is to go abroad and stick to eating in places where you recognise the food (Pie and chips, Lasagne, Fish and chips etc). When you visit Tenerife, you're doing yourself a massive disservice if you stick to visiting British restaurants for example. Not only will you be totally overcharged 99% of the time, but you will also be missing out on some of the tastiest food available in Europe. As an example, in a British bar in Tenerife, a lager will more than likey cost you anything from 2 euros up to 5 euros. In a Canarian bar, you'll be lucky to pay over 1 euro 50 cents.
Hopefully this article has been of use to you, and helps you make an informed decision about where and what to eat on a visit to Tenerife!
