Post Living and working in Tenerife

As a new arriver to Tenerife, I think that the two most important and urgent issues are "Where am I going to live?" and "Where will I find a job?"

Some people will look for these things before they move to Tenerife, but a surprising number of people wait to find out information on Tenerife after they have arrived.

There are a wide variety of estate agents in Tenerife that you can walk in to and ask for information and available apartments, many of which speak English.

Some of these agents will try and charge fees for contracts or organizing an apartment for you, so the trick is to find the lowest charges.

Obviously you can also buy property in Tenerife, but many people prefer to rent an apartment in Tenerife first of all to have a base from which to find the best location in which to settle.

The obvious areas that British Travelers will settle in are Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. Although both of these areas have their benefits, the cost of an apartment can be quite high for someone who is just moving to Tenerife.

If you look a little further afield into one of the more Spanish areas of the Island, such as Playa de San Juan, Alcala, Las Galletas or Adeje, you can find some really cheap apartments in Tenerife that are set in superb surroundings. It is also a good idea to learn to speak at least a little Spanish as quickly as possible, as this will come in handy during your stay.

There are many facilities in most areas of the Island, and it is very easy to find a local school in Tenerife for your children on arrival in every Spanish town.

Every town also has its own Town Hall, where you can receive additional advice and information on what you will need to do.

Feel free to add to this post with more suggestions, ideas, or things that people cna do to make their settling in Tenerife easier.
